EBT: SNAP- Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Some member's of congress and the senate want cuts tot farm bill, which includes SNAP. ABout 40-50 Million AMerican's are on SNAP. Who is on SNAP? The poorest of the poor. Some people think people should work instead of get SNAP. Well, the fact is about 75% of families who receive SNAP have a member who works, who is most likely underemployed. Food is expensive. If you are only making around $25,000 a year, usually working three jobs, can we really expect them to spend at least 25% of their income on food? especially if they are living 130% or more under the poverty level?If communities are not willing to help the poor, then why is it wrong for the Gov't to help them? I would prefer if we all had forms of Mutual AId, like the AMish, Hutterites, Mennonites, etc. where if u lose ur house or barn to fire your community members will help u rebuild, or if u have a hospital bill u are struggling paying that ur community members will help u pay it. That is the true spirit if being a follower of God, helping those who can't help themselves, i.e. the needy. In most churches do u know where the money from the collection plates go? To the needy? poor people? Well, if u think that u are wrong. It almost all goes tot he upkeep of the building, rent (if the church doesn't own the building) utilities and the salary of the pastor. I will say, the only thing I like about the Mormon faith is that mormon's are required to give 10% of their yearly income to help the church and most likely poor member's. Islam also this this requirement. It is called zakat. You are required to give 2.5% of your yearly assets to the poor. No, u don't give to the upkeep of the mosque's, etc. 100% of it goes to the the poor. How do I know this? My husband is from a Muslim country. It is a fact, if u kick people off food stamps or cut the program in 40-60 years we will: see more crime, more prisoner's, a high rise in health care cost, just to name a few. How can we in good con since let the children of our country go to school hungry and in some cases only have one meal during the weekend and win school in not in session? In some cases the school lunch program is the ONLY food a child will get. Why? B/c their parent' can't afford to feed them. One way we can lower the SNAP program and still help americans feed themselves and their families in fix underemployment. How can u buy food when u make minimum wage and can barely afford to pay your rent and bills? I am waiting to see one member of confess or the senate say "yes, we are in a recession and it is not fair that congress and senate member's get 4 ti 6 digit salaries while people are starving in our country and living on the street." Te phrase "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer" describes exactly the members of congress, senate and the other rich people in this country. Why do some politicians (mostly republican) look down on president Obama b/c he wants a cut from his salary while we are in a recession? He knows it is not fair that he get's $400,000 a year while most American's struggle. He asked for a $20,000 cut. We should be proud of him. He is sympathizing and empathizing w/ the poor. What is wrong w/ that? What is better: spend money as a country to help people eat, or bob countries and kill innocent civilian's also known as "collateral damage?" If u are a follower of God the answer is easy. If u claim to follow God the answer should always be the first one.
